"I was taken away from my family at a young age, but I remember the fight as if it were yesterday, as clear as you would a prized memory." He began, a box of blades sitting before him on the table. A whetstone was in his lap, and when he stopped speaking, the only sound in the room was the scrape of his blade against the stone, sharpening the edge until it would slice the skin from bone without effort.
"My family, you see, thought it prudent to go after those that would threaten them. Foolishly, they took a child -- myself -- with them on this great battle. My father fell at the hand of Rosco Vetrov and his men. When my uncle retreated, they did not take me with them. The Vetrov family took me in, but I harbored my hatred and my bitterness. It did not matter to me that they were a family that treated me with kindness. I had watched this man slit the throat of my father before my very eyes. That is a grudge that is not easily forgiven." Slowly, the blade was still sharpened, until he pulled it away, cleaning it against his pants and holding the edge up to the light. Running his thumb along the blade, it welled red against the gleam of silver and his smile returned before the knife was placed back in its case, the next picked up in its stead. He began to work it across the stone, expression thoughtful. "When I grew older, I became a trusted member of the Romanov family. This was not the first of their mistakes, but it was one of many. With Rosco trusting me near-implicitly, I was able to learn many of their secrets and take them with me as an advantage when I left their company. To know the hand your enemy is holding is one of the greatest gifts you can ever receive. To know their weaknesses after being one of them for so long is nothing short of cheating." He paused, glancing up with a wicked gleam in his eyes, a cruel smile cutting across his face. "But cheating is nothing more than using an advantage, no matter how you may have gained it."
