The girl sat sewing in the corner, neat crosses and X's of colored embroidery thread slowly blooming across the swatch of fabric stretched across the hoop in her lap. "But if you insist..." She gave a sigh, setting the sewing aside and studying the newcomer before her with tired eyes. For one so young, there seemed to be too much exhaustion behind her expression, too much stress baring down upon her shoulders.
"I take it you already know my name." A smile was forced across her lips, though it hardly reached her eyes. "Although my last name may be Rottier, I was raised as a Beckett. My parents, a pair of ambassadors that were away more often than they were home, entrusted my care to the Beckett family starting as early as I can remember. They had quite a brood of children already - seven of them, altogether - and it seemed no burden to add one more." This time, the smile really did reach her eyes. "They took me in with little hesitation and treated me as family, more so than my own blood. For that, I am eternally grateful." She took a deep breath, twisting her fingers into her skirt, curling the fabric around her fingertips in what was very obviously a nervous tic, a physical testament to just how uncomfortable she was talking about herself. "Cadence, the only daughter, quickly became my best friend. I tried to teach her how to be a proper lady, and she tried to teach me how to be the exact opposite of one." She laughed, flushing pink at a memory that she neglected to share. It was something private between the two girls, a shared secret. "I attended university to get a degree in teaching, my specialization in children kindergarten to third grade, though I can technically teach grades kindergarten thru twelfth." Her sewing was picked up once more, this time as a distraction more than anything else. "I also had a minor in French literature, though I doubt I'll ever be able to do anything with that particular portion of my degree." She hardly seemed to mind, though her attention appeared to be lost to her mending once more, focus returned to the neat stitches and colorful flowers. FUN FACTSDOMINANT HAND: right
